Are you preparing for an upcoming jet ski dolphin tour? We understand how exciting it can be with an adventure approaching in the near future - jet ski dolphin tours, especially, are the experience of a lifetime, but it’s important to make sure you are well prepared with the right equipment and avoid bringing anything that you don’t need.

At Avi’s Watersports, we’re committed to ensuring that you, your family, and your friends have a memorable jet ski dolphin tour full of fun and wildlife encounters anchored in safety. What follows is a comprehensive guide to prepare you for your upcoming tour, including things to consider before arriving and what you should and shouldn’t bring with you.

What is Provided in a Jet Ski Dolphin Tour?

By choosing Avi’s Watersports for a jet ski dolphin tour, you’ll be able to travel 30 miles round trip deep into The 10,000 Islands! Your trip will include a unique combination of jet ski thrills and wildlife education with dolphin encounters guaranteed.

Your jet ski dolphin tour will also include all the necessary equipment, such as:

Things to Consider

There are a few factors that may affect what items you’ll need or want to bring. On one hand, always consider the weather. Marco Island is often sunny, so you’ll want to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing, including sunglasses for when it’s bright and even rain gear for when it’s wet. If the weather is unfavorable for being on the water, the trip will be rescheduled for another time or day. We do not go out in heavy storms, but we might go forward with the tour in a slight drizzle. If temperatures are cool, we have windbreakers that you can borrow.

Another factor to consider is that while we don’t have storage lockers to store your personal belongings, the jet skis all have small compartments that can fit a limited number of additional items you might want to bring with you.

What You Should Bring

Your jet ski dolphin tour has the potential to be a lifelong memory to share with your family and friends, so be sure to bring a few important items to ensure that you’re comfortable, safe, and ready to enjoy an exciting adventure.

Boater Safety Course Certificate and Government Identification

One of the most important things you will need to bring with you to your jet ski dolphin tour is your boater safety course certificate. Florida State Law requires anyone born after January 1, 1988, must have a valid boaters’ safety ID card in order to operate a motorized boat or personal watercraft of 10 horsepower or more. There’s no age requirement to take the course, but you must be at least 16 years old to operate a jet ski with Avi’s Watersports and over 18 years old to be unaccompanied by an adult. Children as young as five are welcome to ride with an adult with a certificate.

Individuals who intend to operate a jet ski will also need to bring a government-issued I.D.

Comfort Necessities

We recommend that you bring only the necessities for your comfort such as a bathing suit, towel, sandals, and sunglasses. The sun can be intense here on Marco Island, so you can also bring sun-protective clothing such as a sun shirt and a hat, or you can opt for bringing sunscreen of your own.

Great Attitude

Don’t forget that this will be a memory you won’t soon forget! It’s a thrilling adventure filled with beautiful sights and jaw-dropping encounters with wildlife, so get ready for the fun! Try to arrive 30 minutes ahead of your scheduled tour time in order to run through a safety briefing and sign our damage and release waiver.

What You Should Not Bring

There are some things you should avoid bringing on your jet ski dolphin tour, such as items that can be impractical, unsafe, or easily damaged. Be sure to not bring the following:

Unnecessary and Expensive Possessions

As mentioned previously, there are no lockers, so we suggest that you leave personal items such as purses and cell phones behind. Items that are expensive, unnecessary, or easily damaged should probably not be brought with you. Many people want to bring their cell phones to take pictures, but we are happy to confirm that complimentary photos are taken of your trip so you don’t have to risk bringing them.

Uncertified Individuals Needing a Jet Ski

Don’t forget that boater safety course certificates are required! Be sure to print a copy and bring it with you. If you fail the boating safety course, don’t worry - you have unlimited attempts to pass the exam as long as it is done before your tour. Any uncertified individuals will unfortunately have to ride with a certified driver.

Work

Your jet ski dolphin tour is a chance to escape from it all! Consider leaving all thoughts of your work and other life stresses behind on the shore.

Many people (perhaps even yourself included) find out about Marco Island in their search for a beach vacation getaway. As a local who has grown a family here, we often hear visitors explain how they came for a simple beach retreat – a beautiful stretch of white sand to call their own for a week and to kick back and relax to the gentle hum of waves without having to think about work.

We don’t blame you! Marco Island is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With six miles of beaches and 100 miles of waterways within its 24 square miles, Marco Island proudly boasts the title of the largest Barrier Island within Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands area.

If you come for the beach, we can assure you that you will not be disappointed, but Marco Island is more than just a beach.  In fact, it is more than you could possibly imagine. With unequaled access to wildlife, mysterious ancient history, alien-like coastal structures, and more, visitors quickly realize they’ve found a hidden sun-soaked gem that will have you thinking of excuses to return as soon as possible!

From the unique insight of a Marco Island local company, here are the top Marco Island attractions that make our home more than just a beach!

1. The Deep History of Marco Island

The history of Marco Island begins at least 6,000 years ago at the arrival of the fierce Calusa Indians. With the finding of ancient burial mounds and artifacts from this civilization, Marco Island is home to one of the most important archaeological sites in North America. Among artifacts of pottery, animal carcasses, shell tools, arrowheads and harpoon spears made from shells, perhaps the most well-known discovery is the Key Marco Cat, which is described as one of the finest pieces of Pre-Columbian Native American art ever discovered in North America. It has survived against all odds, and you can see it for yourself by visiting the exhibit where it is on display at the Marco Island Historical Museum until April 2026.

Ancient and vanished civilizations are not the end of Marco Island’s history. Visitors can also learn about the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 1500’s who would go on to name the island, “La Isla de San Marco”, or rest with a cool drink or overnight stay at the Olde Marco Island Inn which dates back to the 1800’s.

2. Unmatched Access to Nature

Marco Island attractions include access to nature unlike anywhere else in the world. In addition to the beautiful plants and flowers you’ll see, there is a great variety of animal species including:

When visiting Marco Island, it is imperative that you take advantage of being able to explore the tropical paradise and experience all of its wildlife. The best way to achieve this, by far, is going on a jet ski tour. Take a thrilling 30-mile round trip into the 10,000 islands, experiencing a mix of wildlife education and adrenaline-fueled adventure on a personal jet ski. You can expect up-close encounters with the island’s aquatic wildlife, including unforgettable side-by-side journeys with playful dolphins. Jet ski tours are a great activity for families and people of all ages and experience levels. At Avi’s Watersports, our Marco Island jet ski dolphin tour offers an exciting and memorable experience for families looking to create lasting memories. It is truly a Marco Island attraction you cannot miss!

3. Fascinating Cultural Centers

Marco Island is steeped in a unique culture for you to enjoy. From a weekly farmers market and the Marco Island Center for the Arts to the plethora of marinas and the Island Theater Company, you’ll instantly feel immersed in the local culture. We also have several parks (including the visitor-favorite Canine Cove), a historic Catholic Church, pineapple plantations, a classic movie theater, and numerous salons and spas. There’s something for everyone, and the culture of Marco Island will be sure to make you feel at home.

4. Sports and Activities

Marco Island includes several attractions for sports lovers as well. You can experience some of the best golf in the world with scenic tee-offs and views of the city and the sea. Visitors can also find several bicycle rental shops, putt-putt golf and games at Marco Golf and Garden, plenty of fishing opportunities, tennis courts, paddle boarding and kayak rental shops, pedal boating clubs, and even fitness and gym centers across the island.

Come for the Beach, Stay for the Fun

You’re not alone in wanting to relax on the beach for your vacation, but after a day or two of recouping your energy, you’ll surely want to tap into the extensive Marco Island attractions. Between all the attractions we discussed (history, wildlife, culture, and sports) there’s one activity that will ensure you can do it all! Reach out to Avi’s Watersports to learn more about our jet ski tours and how they can turn your vacation into the experience of a lifetime.

Whether you’re a resident or visitor to Florida, jet skiing is a thrilling adventure for people of all ages - from simple fun in the sun to wonder-filled dolphin tours, this activity is a favorite for professionals and amateurs alike. If you’ve only just begun considering a jet ski rental on Marco Island, you likely have a lot of questions! Here, the Avi’s Watersports team has compiled a list of frequently asked questions about jet ski rentals, along with their straightforward answers:

Do you need special permission to rent a jet ski?

In the state of Florida, there are boating safety laws that require the completion of a boating safety course for anyone wishing to operate a jet ski within their jurisdiction. With the completion of a boating safety course, all jet ski drivers are required to have a boating certificate.

Who needs to take a boating safety course?

Florida State Law requires anyone born after January 1, 1988 to have a valid boater’s safety ID card. If you were born after January 1, 1988 and do not yet have a boater’s safety ID card, then you must take a boating safety course before renting a jet ski.

Who can drive a jet ski at Avi’s Watersports?

At Avi’s Watersports, you need to be at least 16 years old in order to drive a jet ski. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and children as young as 5 are welcome to ride with an adult.

Do I need any prior experience to rent a jet ski?

While prior experience may be helpful, jet ski drivers of all skill levels are welcome at Avi’s Watersports.

What is a boating safety course?

The primary objective of the boating safety course is safety for those operating jet skis as well as others and the surrounding environment. For anyone operating a motorized boat or personal watercraft of 10 horsepower or more, the boating safety course must be completed. It is completely online and includes registration, study of test material, online examination, and the delivery of a temporary boating certificate.

Why is a boating safety course important?

Besides being a requirement before renting a jet ski, the boating safety course includes important information that can help protect yourself, others, and the environment in which you are jet skiing. The course covers key safety concepts, such as navigation and right-of-way rules, essential equipment on board, and how to deal with various maritime emergencies that might occur. It also helps reduce the occurrence of accidents by giving enhanced knowledge, and completion of the course ensures you comply with the legalities of jet ski operation in the state of Florida, avoiding fines or penalties.

How do you get a boating certificate?

A boating certificate is given to you upon the successful completion of the boating safety course. You will receive a temporary certificate which you will need to print and bring with you on the day you are renting a jet ski. If you don't pass your exam on the first try, there’s no need to worry - you are allowed to take the exam an unlimited number of times.

Do you have to take the Florida boating safety course even if you’re an experienced jet ski driver?

Yes, even if you are an experienced jet ski driver, Florida state law requires that you have a boating certificate. It may seem like a nuisance, but at Avi's Watersports, we take a proactive role in ensuring our clients have completed the required Florida boating safety course before embarking on a jet skiing adventure. This not only honors the legal prerequisite but also establishes a safer environment for everyone on our tours.

Does the boating certificate expire?

The boating certificate received after completing the boating safety course is temporary. Your certificate will expire 90 days after you complete the course.

How much does the boater safety course cost?

If you take your course through boat-ed.com, the cost is $9.95.

What happens if you forget to bring your certificate with you to the jet ski dolphin tour?

For everyone’s safety and in order to maintain compliance, all jet ski drivers will be required to show a current boater safety course certificate. If you do not have one, or if you forgot to bring your proof of completion, you’ll need to either reschedule your tour or ride with a certified driver.

Where do you find more information about boating safety and regulations in Florida?

You can find a plethora of resources on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website.

How much does it cost to rent a jet ski?

The price of renting a jet ski varies depending on the length of time you are renting it and the location. At Avi’s Watersports, we offer jet ski dolphin tours for $275 + tax per jet ski. This includes a 2-hour, 30-mile round trip into the 10,000 islands, wildlife encounters and education, jet ski fuel, safety equipment, photography, and bottled water. Know What to Bring (and What Not to Bring!)

When preparing for a jet ski dolphin tour, it is essential to bring a few necessary items for safety and comfort. Sunscreen and protective clothing such as sunglasses and a sunshirt are vital as you will be exposed to the hot Florida sun for extended periods. You should also plan to bring a pair of sandals to wear on your way to and from the jetski.

Other important items that shouldn’t be forgotten are your government-issued photo I.D. and temporary boating certificate. Without these items, you will not be allowed to drive a jet ski (but you will be allowed to ride with someone else).

As far as what you shouldn’t bring, valuables and personal items such as purses of cell phones should be left behind. Consumables like food and drinks are also not allowed as they could attract wildlife or add litter to the water environment. One exception is bottled water, which we will be providing to you, free of charge.

Marco Island, the largest of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands, is renowned for its pristine beaches, translucent waters, and exotic wildlife.. Among the numerous aquatic adventures this place has to offer, one of the most popular and unique is the jet ski dolphin tour. If you’re planning a visit to Marco Island in the near future and are looking for something to do besides just sitting on the beach, check out one of these thrilling and memorable experiences. Here are a few reasons why a jet ski dolphin tour is something you won’t want to miss.

Get Up Close and Personal with the Dolphins

Dolphins are marvelous creatures, known for their intelligence, agility, and playful nature. A jet ski dolphin tour gives you the chance to observe them in their natural habitat. Dolphins are abundant in the waters surrounding Marco Island and seeing them up close is not rare during the tour. The dolphins often put on an exhilarating show, leaping and spinning out of the water. Moreover, dolphins in the wild are not subject to the unfortunate and unethical conditions experienced by some in captivity. Observing them from a respectful distance allows for a non-invasive interaction that promotes their well-being while providing a remarkable experience.

Bird’s Eye View on Nature

Jet skiing gives you a different perspective than say, a boat tour. You’re seated close to the water, which allows for immediate, close-up connections with curious dolphins that might come to investigate your jet ski. Furthermore, the fact that you're skimming across the water surface puts you in a prime position to also see other wildlife up close, such as manatees, sea turtles, and various species of birds.

Experienced Guides

Jet ski dolphin tours are guided by experienced dolphin and nature enthusiasts who will share their knowledge about the local flora, fauna, and history of Marco Island. Among the many providers of adventurous water activities in the area, Avi's Watersports offers comprehensive jet ski dolphin tours that offer participants an unforgettable experience. Avi's is an established name on Marco Island and they are known for their exceptional guides who are not only experienced jet ski instructors but also possess a vast knowledge of the local ecosystem. With a commitment to safety and respect for marine life, they ensure that your jet ski adventure is not just adrenaline-filled entertainment but also an opportunity to learn more about the local waters and its fascinating inhabitants.

Great For All Ages

Jet ski dolphin tours are suitable for people of all ages which makes them the perfect activity for families, young adults, couples, and just about everyone. The tours also prioritize safety so even the thrill of riding a jet ski on the open water comes with a sense of security. Participants do not need any jet ski experience before embarking on the dolphin tour. Guides provide a comprehensive safety briefing and instructions for operating the jet ski, making sure everyone feels comfortable and confident before setting off on their adventure.

Promotes Eco-Tourism

Taking a jet ski dolphin tour promotes responsible eco-tourism. Many tour operators implement sustainable practices, such as maintaining a safe distance from the dolphins, limiting the noise, and teaching participants about the importance of protecting marine life. By choosing such tours, you contribute to a form of tourism that respects and seeks to preserve natural environments.
